Martindale resources- helping keep you safe from day one…

Keeping safe on site is essential for anyone working in or around electricity. For apprentices at the start of their trade careers, developing a strong understanding of electrical safety early on can help lay the foundations for safer working practices throughout their careers.

At Martindale, we believe access to clear, practical guidance from day one can play an important role in supporting that understanding. Having the right resources available can help apprentices build confidence, reinforce best practice and approach electrical work more safely as their skills and responsibilities develop.

Practical resources for every stage of your career

We provide a wide selection of free electrical safety resources, all accessible in one place on the Martindale website. Our downloads, checklists and guides can be used to help support apprentices working on the maintenance or installation of electrical plant and equipment, while also helping to simplify alignment with Health & Safety recommendations for safe working practices.

Handy checklists to help encourage safer working practices

Our downloadable checklists offer clear, easy-to-follow guidance on key subjects including Electrical Safety Compliance, Electrical Safety Audit and Formal Visual Inspection. These practical tools can be used as reference points for apprentices as they build their understanding of workplace safety requirements.

The Electrical Safety Compliance checklist is designed to help ensure that six key areas are considered: equipment compliance; safety procedures; training and education; maintenance and inspection; documentation and reporting; and communication and culture.

As part of their training, apprentices can use simple audits such as our Electrical Safety Audit checklist to help develop awareness of electrical safety processes and how these may be applied in the workplace.

The first step in any PAT / EET testing process is a formal visual inspection. Our Formal Visual Inspection checklist outlines a structured, recorded approach to checking an appliance, its plug and flexible cable, helping to encourage good habits from the outset.

Safety at work –  established from day one

Safety and making safe measurements are a key focus for Martindale. Managing Director Steve Dunning explains:

“Apprentices are the future of our industry and thankfully we see a lot of skilled and diligent individuals coming through, so it’s crucial that safe isolation and safety procedures are ingrained in working practices. Making this as straightforward and visible as possible is essential. It’s about getting into good habits, sooner rather than later”.

Memorable safe isolation procedures to help reinforce safe practice

To help reduce the risk of electricity-related injuries in the workplace, we have developed our memorable safe isolation procedures: ALIVE and STOP. No Check. No Contact!

ALIVE highlights five vital steps that should be included as part of a safe isolation procedure, while the STOP. No Check. No Contact! campaign is designed to remind anyone working on or near electricity not to take chances with exposed metal parts and to always check first.

More information, useful documentation, posters and other items are available to download from the Safe Isolation Campaigns section of our website.

A resource centre for ongoing learning

Our dedicated resource hub, also brings together links to wider industry information related to safety and electrical measurement. These resources are intended to support individuals at every stage of their career, helping reinforce safe working practices from day one and beyond.
