Our focus
Martindale leads the way in safe isolation, providing simple and reliable solutions to enable electricians and service personnel to stay safe by proving dead and locking-off circuits during installation and maintenance. The full range includes voltage testers, proving units, socket and continuity testers, 18th Edition installation testers, PATs and electrical and environmental test tools.
Based in Watford, serving nationwide
Martindale serves customers nationwide from our Watford headquarters located within the M25. Our extensive warehouse ensures stock availability with excellent links to provide the best delivery possible for our customers. Our training facility and extensive technical and sales support teams are also based at this site.

1928
Martindale Electric of Westmorland Road, The Hyde, London, NW9. Founded as the UK base for US Cleveland, Ohio based Martindale Electric Company Inc (Meco).
1937
Martindale exhibits at the British Industries Fair. Displaying Grinding Commutators and Slip Rings, Mica Undercutters, Portable Electric Blowers, Electrical Etchers, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Equipment, Martindale Protective Face Masks and automatic Safety Road Signals.
1950
- Meco sells Martindale and the two businesses seperate
- Martindale UK is acquired by Blagden Industries
1968
Launch of the classic, patented Ring Main Tester (the Check Plug). Although records are lost over time, our best estimate is that over 2,000,000 Check Plugs have been manufactured to date.
1996
BZ101 Buzzit Check Plug, the first buzzing check plug with audible and visual indications, is created.
1997
Martindale Electric’s name & Test Equipment business is bought and relocated to Watford – sporting a portfolio of 6 products.
1999
- Martindale’s portfolio grows to 48 products
- FD500 – The low-cost fuse finder is launched, greatly simplifying the task of identifying which socket is on which circuit. Winning Interbuild’s “Best Electrical Product” (December 2000)
2001
Martindale’s portfolio grows to 70 products. The FD650 is launched, the first affordable Digital Fuse Finder.
2002
- EZ2500 The first patented non-trip, no battery, no test button, loop tester displaying PE, PN PFC & PSC
- Introduced the Metrohm low voltage test division. Adding 16th Edition Testers and, for the first time, PAT Testers to the range
2004
- Acquired the electrical test lamp business of John Drummond (Engineers) Ltd. including the Drummond test
lamp business, specified by most electrical utilities - Company relocated to larger premises at Penfold Estate, Imperial Way, Watford – WD24 4YY
2005
- Martindale showcases its entire product range on the WW2 Heavy Cruiser, HMS Belfast, to many key industries and customers working in safety-related environments.
- VIPD launches: A Voltage Indicator and Proving Device – an essential safety kit for electrical engineers.
2007
EZ150 – The first advanced socket tester is introduced with earth loop indication.
2009
HPAT500 The smallest and lightest handheld PAT Tester
2014
Martindale’s R&D facility expands into their own dedicated premises.
2015
Martindale Electric brings all departments under one roof – in a modern eco-friendly building at Metrohm House, Imperial Park, Imperial Way, Watford, WD24 4PP approx. 100m away!
2019
HPAT400 PASS/FAIL PAT Tester launches. The PAT Tester range has been increased – with the launch of the smallest, lightest hand-held battery-powered PAT Tester.
2020
PDS and PDSX Proving Units are launched. As part of our commitment to user safety, we are also leaders in the sales of Proving Units, featuring a range that gradually expanded from our classic PD690 model, to a range of Proving Units. These latest versions, the PDS and PDSX models are lighter and smaller.
2021
277 products now in Martindale’s range. Our commitment to continuous innovation ensures our customers have the best solutions available.
