Martindale Electric BZ820-EV for EV Socket Testing
The Martindale BZ820-EV EV socket tester performs first line functional electrical checks on electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) charge points.
Ideal for contractors and installers, the single phase BZ820-EV is the optimum first-line tool for checking EV chargers fitted with Type-2 connectors. It’s quick and easy to use, but thorough detecting 28 wiring fault conditions and also checking and indicating the voltage supply level as high or low.
Correct polarity is indicated by three flashing green LEDs and a continuous audible tone, while fault conditions are clearly indicated by three red LEDs and an intermittent warning buzzer. Socket polarity and earth wiring faults, meanwhile, are identified by a combination of red LEDs. A look up chart on the tester provides basic fault diagnosis information.
With the BZ820-EV connecting directly to an EVSE charging point using the Type-2 connector, the integral CP mode, 4-position slider switch allows vehicle states to be simulated: –

Additionally, LEDs on the integral Type-2 plug show the status of the CP signal and if the voltage supply is present (L1), while there’s also fast and easy testing for the correct wiring of L, N and PE in a 3-wire cable.
It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use, but in dry conditions only, and the product is designed, as with other socket testers, to be used as a first-line tester not as an alternative to a full installation test.
